CS6457: Video Game Design - Final Project

CS6457: Video Game Design - Final Project

Roguelite third-person shooter in a space outpost. Group project for CS457 Video Game Design in Georgia Tech OMSCS. Spring 2026 Semester.

Yes our game name is the same as our team name.

Note: This entry is still a draft. In the meantime, here is the trailer and some screenshots of the gameplay and WIP assets.

My roles and contributions

Over the course of 5 months, I felt like I worked in an indie studio as I was able to wear many hats and contribute to multiple key areas:

  • Gameplay Programming: Enemy AI, Inventory and equipment, Mineral spawning and distribution, Objectives and events handling
  • UI Programming
  • UX Designer
  • 3D Modeler and Animation: Big Crawler
  • Project Management - yes, coordinating across 2 timezones and different skill sets requires a role for that too!

In-Game Screenshots

First level, spawning point, and key mappings.
Combat in the outpost with different enemy behaviors and minerals to use in shops.
Each room leads to a shop where you can buy upgrades, stat boosts, or health recharges.
Upgrade your equipment to boost stats. A bonus on complete sets is applied.
After killing the boss, choose a boon that carries over the next level.
We were a team of 5 students from USA, Spain, Italy, and France.

Diagrams, sketches, and various WIP assets

Sketch of various dungeon configurations. We ended up just doing the outpost.
Architecture diagram of inventory, equipment, and minerals.
Architecture diagram of tier-based mineral distribution that accounts for room density type. My idea was to map a mineral-tier to a stat boost.
Polished the UI and UX by designing mockups in Figma.
Testing out changing textures based on what equipment the player changes to.

Thoughts

(Draft) On top of the group project, we each had 4 assignments and quizzes to complete individually. We also conducted playtesting and had to produce a report. After an intense Spring semester and probably around a hundred hours poured into the group project, we got a 97%. I was happy to receive 98.5% on my overall grade.
